BALLARAT'S SoupBus headed for Kilmore yesterday morning to help with bushfire relief.

The SoupBus is a program initiated by Ballarat homelessness advocate Craig Schepis, to provide an after-dark meal service of soup and bread to those in need.

While volunteers have been getting the bus ready for Ballarat's streets, it still had a long way to go.

But at the weekend, Mr Schepis heard a "cry for help" at Kilmore, where another facility was desperately needed for volunteers.

A team of volunteer "tradies", including Paul Whittle of enviro energy, came onboard to get the SoupBus kitchen operating and ready for Kilmore.

From plumbing to crockery, all the work was done and yesterday the bus headed off with food, blankets, jackets and shoes.

Mr Schepis said he would be helping on the SoupBus for at least a week and would leave the bus there as long as it was needed.
